Our Heroine
The Jews had been in exile for many years in the land of Babylon. When power changed to the hands of the Persians, they were still there. At the beginning of the story, the King of Persia is displeased with his queen, and removes her from her royal position. All the young maidens in the land were brought to the King over a period of time that he might choose a new queen from among them.
A young Jewish girl named Esther is among the young maidens. Her guardian/uncle Mordecai, brings her to the palace and he conceals her Jewish origin. After winning the favor of the King, Esther becomes Queen.
Meanwhile, Mordecai is against Haman, the King's assistant, who decides in revenge to trick the King into declaring a sentence of death on all Jews in the kingdom, carried out at a future date to be decided by lot. Mordecai learns of the plot and alerts Esther. She, at great personal risk, decides to confront the King about the plot and beg for mercy for her people. She is successful in this matter. Through a series of events orchestrated by God and her wise handling of the circumstances, Haman is shown before the King to be the villain that he really is. In the end, Haman is hung on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai and the Jews of the kingdom are saved from extinction.
Our Chapter
In December 2009, our founders, Sis Laquetta Nelson & Sis Nakia Graves were approached about starting a chapter in Maryland/DC under United National Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Freemasons of the World, Thirty-third and Last Degree and Order of Eastern Star, Inc. based out of Wilmington, North Carolina. They agreed and began to think of a name for the chapter. Since they were already Eastern Stars, they were knowledgeable of the stories of our heroines. They chose the one that they felt a connection with and who would exemplify what they believed in, Queen Esther.
Queen Esther was chosen because she was a woman of strength and dignity. The qualities of self-worth, love and inner beauty is what they wanted to convey to the members and future sisters for years to come. We are all women of strength and dignity!
After the name was chosen, Sis Nelson and Sis Graves immediately began thinking of women they knew who and felt would represent Queen Esther. The original 7 initiated into Queen Esther Chapter #004 (chartered members) and they were presented with a charter on April 10, 2010.
We continue to build upon the morale’s of our heroines and the work that we do in the community.
